The Melbourne Art Fair
Foundation Awards for the Visual Arts were established to celebrate innovation
and excellence in the Australian visual arts sector.
Two awards will be given by the Foundation every two years. The first recognises
the outstanding achievement made by an Australian Artist. This individual/collective
will have created a significant body of work and one that has had a significant
impact on Australian contemporary art practice.
The second Award recognises the outstanding contribution made by an Australian
who has developed and demonstrated an unwavering commitment to progress
the status of contemporary Australian art nationally and beyond.
The Award itself is a work of art. The small bronze sculpture created by
Marea Gazzard is a fitting symbol of the integrity of the Awards and for
those who will receive them.
The Melbourne Art Fair Foundation Awards for the Visual Arts 2007 were held
18 October at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney.
The 2007 Award recipients were Artist Peter Booth and Visionary Gordon Darling
AC CMG and Marilyn Darling.
The inaugural 2005 Award recipients were Artist James Gleeson AO and Visionary
James Mollison AO. |
